Although I photograph families all over the world, British Columbia is my home! I’ve been exploring the Greater Vancouver area all my life, and photographing families in and around Vancouver for almost two decades (since 2007!).
Whether you’re lucky enough to live in our beautiful province, visit regularly (a lot of my families visit each summer!), or are here on a once-in-a-lifetime holiday, there are so many beautiful locations to explore.
Below I’m going to do a little show and tell of a few of my favourites locations to photograph families in Vancouver, Canada. Scroll down and check them out!
Jericho Beach
Jericho Beach is quintessential Vancouver– sand and green park combined, with the Vancouver skyline in the distance. Best at sunset, but also do-able very early morning.
VanDusen Botanical Gardens
Enter these botanical gardens in the heart of Shaughnessy, and you’ll be taken to a little slice of Europe right in Vancouver. This location is wonderful for small children, as it is all enclosed, and there are so many parts of the garden to explore. My favourite section in the rose garden in early summertime.
Ambleside Park
Ambleside is just outside of Vancouver (over the bridge from Stanley Park), but it’s a wonderful beach! A little bit wilder than Jericho, with a lovely view of the Lions’ Gate Bridge.
Hycroft Manor
Hycroft Manor is a gorgeous mansion in Shaughnessy, a favourite for those wanting an old world European look. For a location fee, access is given to the lower floor drawing room, conservatory and charming outside terrace and gardens.
Garry Point Park
For open fields, we can head out to the neighbouring city of Richmond, and find this gem of a park that boasts a sweet driftwood strewn beach, trails, boats, and wildflowers. Garry Point is at its best very close to sunset.
Stanley Park
Of course Stanley Park can’t be missed– beaches, forests, the famous seawall, and a lighthouse! There’s lots to explore on a family photoshoot here.
Coal Harbour
I don’t often recommend city portraits for family photo sessions with small children, but Coal Harbour is a great spot. Highlights include views over Burrard Inlet to Stanley Park, float planes landing on the water, and a gorgeous pier.
Granville Island
Another great urban location is Granville Island– but only in the morning! Evenings are bustling. In the mornings the island is quiet, and we can wander the quirky, colourful streets. After your photoshoot, you can check out the market!
