– Vancouver Family Photographer: White Rock, British Columbia –
This was my third time photographing this family– I love watching siblings grow together! I always love it when, especially with very young children, the parents are content to let them explore a little– pick up shells or rocks, dig in the sand, ask questions… you’ll see a lot of that in the photos below, and I always think it adds to the portraits being such a special and authentic memory.
This area and surrounding beach is the very sand I grew up playing in, and later driving to as a teen with friends in my first car. My first date with my husband was at a restaurant just around the corner (which is no longer in operation: My, doesn’t that make me feel old!) and he proposed whilst picnicking at a park just a skip away from here. So it truly is my old haunt! Crescent Beach is one of my very favourite places to photograph families in the Lower Mainland.

about the session: smoky skies in british columbia
This family photography session took place in mid September, close to sunset in White Rock, B.C, when we were experiencing lots of haze from wildfire smoke. While I always leave the final decision to my clients whether or not to go ahead in this kind of situation (this decision can depend on the level of the air quality warning, ages and health of family members, etc.), I actually very much love photographing when the sky is hazy– the light is still often bright and lovely, but the haze gives the photos an ethereal quality similar to fog, but a bit warmer. What do you think?
