This family was holidaying on Vancouver Island, visiting all the way from Australia to celebrate a special milestone. I met them at my favourite Uplands Park– one of the best locations for family photographs in Victoria, BC. I have to thank them for the little stuffed koala and kangaroo they brought all the way from Oz to gift to my children– what a sweet surprise!

about the session: uplands park
Uplands Park is located about a fifteen minute drive from Victoria Harbour, in Oak Bay on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. It truly is such a perfect location for family photographs– it is never that busy, as the park is so large, and it offers both meadows and trees, as well as a beautiful rocky waterfront overlooking the sea. Best times to photograph here are closer to sunset or sunrise, particularly if you would like some beautiful waterfront portraits, as the sun will be quite harsh in open spaces like this for most of the day, on a sunny day. This park reminds me of old European parklands, due to the beautiful large Garry Oaks, but also has such a perfect westcoast look at the rocky water’s edge. This session took place in July, on a slightly overcast day.
