– Vancouver Family Photographer: Point Grey –

I photographed this lovely family of four in the early morning at Jericho Beach in Vancouver, Canada. The September light was soft, and there weren’t many people around yet that time of day– a few joggers and cyclists along the pathways of the green park directly off the beach.

The littlest was only interested in cuddling with mum to start (As a side note, this is the main reason I never offer short sessions, although I’m often asked to: sometimes it takes children a little while to become comfortable, –or to change moods!– as any parents will know well. I like to make sure we don’t feel rushed, and can go along at the pace of the child.) but after a little while, we moved on to the four of them playing in the sand together, and eventually both children were fully on board; climbing driftwood and then racing and being swung around by mum and dad in the grassy park.

about the session: jericho beach

The beach in general is one of my favourite places to shoot, and when in Vancouver, this beach in particular! I love Jericho‘s combination of beautiful sand, mountain backdrop, and parkland with green grass and trees. The only downside of a session at the beach is timing: we have to begin fairly close to either sunset or sunrise, otherwise on a sunny day the light will be harsher than I prefer. For children with early bedtimes, this means beach sessions in Canada are the most ideal in September: when we are still in warm weather, but sunset is getting a bit earlier.
