– Vancouver Family Photographer: Richmond, B.C. –

This Vancouver family photography session was on a beautifully golden evening, when the sun streams through the trees just so. We met in that ideal window just before sunset to explore one of my favourite parks in metro Vancouver, traipsing along the grass-lined pathways, and watching for airplanes flying overhead.

I was so excited to meet this family’s newest addition: a little brother for their eldest (who I photographed just a few years ago when they were still a family of three). The boys were described by their parents to me as part angel / part terror (aren’t all children? haha!), but they were were such fun to photograph, and so adorable together. The little one had just learned to walk –so was in that perfect stage of toddling about– and the older one is a big fan of the outdoors, and so happily pointed out and explained various flowers and sticks, slugs and bugs to me throughout our shoot.

I took one of my favourite portraits of last year during this session: mum spinning around dancing with the baby, the sun lighting her hair and dress, while older brother ran around her in circles happily. These are the kinds of moments I love to photograph most: a moment to replay in one’s mind and smile upon when children are grown.

This family photography session took place in late August, about an hour and a half before sunset in Richmond, British Columbia. We were scheduled for early August, but hit a rainy day and had to reschedule: what luck then to happen upon such a glorious evening for our second attempt!
