The Cotswolds have been at the top of my family photography destination list for years, so being able to travel there to photograph two families this past summer was an absolute dream come true. The Cotswolds are a protected area in the UK, a few hours out of London –quintessential English Countryside!– and every cobbled street, rolling pasture, rambling rose and thatched cottage made my heart leap.
Adam (my husband) was my trusty driver as we navigated stick shift (with the wrong hand!) on the wrong (to us Canadians) side of the road. We had thought once we left London it would be a piece of pie, but giant (sometimes double) roundabout after giant roundabout kept jumping out at us! Eventually we made it to where the roads were quieter, but the speed limit was still high, and the roads were nail-bitingly narrow. I don’t know if I’ll be driving myself around there anytime soon, ha!
This family photoshoot in the Cotswolds was likely the one I had most looked forward to on my main Europe trip last year. You can see this family’s photos from the year before in Paris here: I knew this time would be no less special. I’ve chosen a few of my favourites to share below.

about the session: family portraits in bibury & arlington row
Bibury was the perfect backdrop for this family’s Cotswolds photoshoot. The famous Arlington Row looks empty in these photos, but make no mistake– we had to wait for our chance! Tour buses kept pulling up, and the famous street was always bustling. My favourite shot is the first one above on the little bridge, with brother and sister sitting and parents standing watching them– but wouldn’t you know, we disturbed a biting ants’ nest! Just to say that things behind the scenes are rarely as tranquil as they appear. ;)
Gear: Canon 5D Mark IV + 50mm 1.2
