2015
Where did the time go? The first six months with this little lady o’ mine have been lengthy and fleeting, tedious and beautiful, exhausting and fulfilling. Parenthood is hard work. It’s the hardest work I could ever have dreamed of. (And I currently only have one baby. Goodness!)
Penny is very much like her dad. She gives laughs and smiles only when she really feels like it, and is mostly observant, curious, and quiet. Only a few days ago did she start really experimenting with “mamamamama”– and it’s the sweetest thing.
Balancing building a new house, keeping up with work, and learning how to be a mom to this little girl has been challenging! I’m trying so very hard to not let these moments pass me by in the whirlwind that is life right now. An elderly lady stopped me in the grocery store today, and took my hand: “My grand-daughter is a doctor now, delivering babies in the hospital,” she said. “And I used to hold her when she was that size– imagine that! It passes so quickly… enjoy it.”
The other day when the sun came out, I took a quick fifteen minutes to photograph Penny. Just her, in her little diaper on our bed. I have one of these portraits as the background on my iphone now– and when she wakes crying in the night and I check the time, I see it and am reminded of how very worth it she is.
