This lovely family was on a dream vacation on Vancouver Island, visiting from Texas. I met them at the ever magical Uplands Park– one of my favourite locations for family photographs in Victoria, or perhaps the whole world! These siblings mirror my own three children (girl-boy-girl), and so spending time with them was to catch a glimpse at what my family might look like in a few years time. I photographed them near sunset, amidst the oak trees and meadows, and finishing on the rocky water’s edge at Cattle Point.

about the session: uplands park
Uplands Park is located about a fifteen minute drive from Victoria Harbour, in Oak Bay on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. It truly is such a perfect location for family photographs– it is never that busy, as the park is so large, and it offers both meadows and trees, as well as a beautiful rocky waterfront overlooking the sea. Best times to photograph here are closer to sunset or sunrise, particularly if you would like some beautiful waterfront portraits, as the sun will be quite harsh in open spaces like this for most of the day, on a sunny day. This park reminds me of old European parklands, due to the beautiful large Garry Oaks, but also has such a perfect westcoast look at the rocky water’s edge. This session took place in late August, when the grasses in the park are dried and golden.
