Jetting over on the ferry to Victoria is one of the highlights of my summer. I usually photograph families on Vancouver Island once or twice each summer, and every time I go, I find myself wishing I could stay. The pace feels a bit slower than on the mainland, and the parks are some of the most beautiful places I’ve photographed in the whole world.
I’ve photographed this family a few times now, beginning when their daughter was just beginning to walk. I’ll say it again and again, it never ceases to amaze how quickly time passes and children grow.

about the session: cattle point, victoria bc
Cattle Point is located about a fifteen minute drive from Victoria Harbour, in Oak Bay on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. It truly is such a perfect location for family photographs– a beautiful rocky waterfront overlooking the sea. Best times to photograph here are closer to sunset or sunrise, as the sun will be quite harsh in open spaces like this on a sunny day. This park has such a perfect westcoast look at the rocky water’s edge. This session took place in late summer, when the grasses in the park are dried and golden.
